Single Building Assessments: Update on the Cladding Remediation Programme
5:13

The Cladding Remediation Programme (CRP) continues to progress across Scotland, and the Q3 2025 update marks an important point for building owners, property managers and social landlords. With over 1,000 expressions of interest already submitted through the Single Open Call, it’s more important now than ever to understand eligibility, funding opportunities and the Single Building Assessment (SBA) process. The Scottish government estimates that there are roughly 13,400 buildings that are eligible as part of the programme highlighting a need to encourage more participation.

The latest update highlights strong progress, but there are still many eligible buildings that haven’t yet submitted an Expression of Interest (EoI) to access funding. Submitting an EoI is the first crucial step to securing support for your SBA and any future remediation work. With the current single open call process closing on 31 December, building owners should act now to ensure they don’t miss out on essential support and guidance.

Understanding the Cladding Remediation Programme

The Scottish Government’s Cladding Remediation Programme was established to address fire safety risks in residential buildings with external wall systems or cladding. Buildings are generally eligible if they:

  • Are more than 11 metres in height
  • Were built or refurbished between June 1992 and June 2022
  • Contain cladding or wall systems that could present a fire risk
  • Are flatted, residential buildings

The programme aims to assess all eligible buildings and, where required, carry out remediation work to protect residents. Across Scotland, there are around 13,400 residential buildings over 11 metres, and between 1,200 and 1,500 may need remediation. This highlights the scale and importance of the national effort underway.

Single Open Call Data

Launched in March 2025, the Single Open Call allows building owners, property managers, local authorities and registered social landlords to apply for funding via an EoI to carry out a Single Building Assessment. This assessment reviews the fire safety performance of external wall systems and determines whether remediation is needed.

According to the Q3 2025 update:

  • The Scottish Government has received 1,062 expressions of interest through the Single Open Call
  • Around half of all applications come from social landlords and local authorities
  • An extra £30 million in funding has been announced, including £20 million to expand SBA funding and £10 million for high risk mitigations
  • The Single Open Call is due to close on 31 December 2025, although it may close earlier if funding is fully committed

This means building owners who believe their properties may qualify should act as soon as possible, as delaying could mean missing the funding window.

Total Expressions of Interest submitted to the Cladding Remediation Programme as at 30 September 2025, categorised by applicant type.
